Ewajo creativity and wellness for 35 years

History:
Started in 1974 in the Wallingford district, the name Ewajo comes form the Yoruban language of Nigeria and means "Come and Dance". Early classes focused on Latin, Caribbean, Modern and Jazz. People of all ages and diverse backgrounds experienced dance as living expression of unique and and shared histories.
Mission:
To bring the creative expression of dance to the community, and to provide an alternative medium of education in health and culture for adults and children.
Vision:
To build an informed audience for the future of dance by creating and sustaining a viable performing arts program in the community and schools.
Founder:
Edna M. Daigre, former associate professor of dance at the University
of Washington, dance and fitness administrator, and community developer
of numerous youth programs.
Honors:
In 1995, Seattle Mayor Norman B. Rice proclaimed May 14-20 as Ewajo Dance Workshop Week. In 1999 and 2000, Ewajo's Collective Ensemble was the only local youth organization to participate in Seattle International Children's Festival.
